Quest POS systems fill Dolphin Stadium

WHEN the Indianapolis Colts rolled the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI last month, they did it in a stadium full of point of sale technology developed in Australia.

South Australian POS firm Quest Retail Technology has specialised in fitting out large-scale sporting and entertainment arenas in the US. And just prior to the Super Bowl, the company was involved in the largest wireless POS system under a single one roof at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.

Quest installed more than 800 points of sale terminals, including 250 wireless devices for portable sales outlets and 70 handheld devices for suites and in-seat service.

The technology has enabled the stadium to offer fans in-seat or in-suite ordering of food and refreshments

“We signed the deal in May and had the first Quest POS Terminals on site for Training in July,” Dolphin Enterprises vice-president of merchandising, licensing and business development Terry Bassett said.

“This was a significant project as the old system did not provide us the platform we needed,” Mr Bassett said. “Quest worked closely with (us) to install and commission the system during the end of the baseball season and then to go live in August.”

Quest general manager Tim Stollznow said the projects of this size always present interesting anomalies and technical hurdles. The company had to overcome those issues in the short time between the end of the Florida Marlins’ baseball season and the beginning of the Miami Dolphins football seasons.

Quest’s ongoing export success was rewarded last January when it was recognised at the 2006 Business SA Export awards, taking out the ICT sector award for excellence. The award means the company was automatically a finalist in the Australian Export Awards hosted by Austrade and the Australia chamber of Commerce and Industry.
